Pine Straw

When you deliver the straw, where do you put it?

We will put the bales basically anywhere you would like within 15 feet of where we can park the truck. Most deliveries are dropped off either at the end of the driveway or in a pine island in the front yard.

How much pine straw do I need?

A bale of pine straw covers about 35 square feet (the size of a 5-by-7 full-size mattress).

Should I remove the old straw (or leaves) before I put the new straw down?

No. Straw disintegrates more quickly on bare dirt than on old straw. It also adds to mulching, and it’s more work for you!

What should I do about weeds in my plant beds?

Our recommendation would be to cut the weeds down low with a weed eater and then spray them with a weed killer (Roundup, etc). Between the loss of sunlight with the straw application and the weed killer, you should have good results.

After I order, when will I get my delivery?

We deliver Monday through Saturday. Deliveries usually arrive within a few days of the order; however, deliveries and installations can take longer during the peak season each spring.

What type of straw do you sell?

Southern Long Leaf (Southern Long Leaf trees are making a comeback, and this premium straw is increasingly popular. Long Leaf straw looks best; goes further, requiring fewer bales; and lasts longer because the needles don’t decompose as quickly).

Mulch

How much mulch do I need?

1 cubic yard covers 100–108 square feet at 3 inches deep

How many bags are in a yard

One yard of mulch is equal to 13 bags 2ft bags of mulch that you typically buy at the store.

What is a cubic yard in visual terms?

Think of a 3'x3'x3' box or the amount that fits in two wheel barrows.

Do I need to be home for delivery?

No as long as the drop spot or installation area has been thoroughly marked or communicated with us.

Can you deliver pine straw and mulch at once?

Sadly these two products come in different trucks, however we can space delivery as close or spread out as you need.
